Purpose/Mission Statement: The objective of the Youth Ministry, which acts as an umbrella organization for a variety of different ministries geared toward our youth and young adults, is to positively enrich them through different activities directed towards their specific needs, to equip them with essential instructions for living spiritually enriched lives, and to assist them with understanding and embracing the goals and visions set forth by our Pastor.
Scripture: Ezekiel 16:60 “Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.”
Meeting Day/Time/Location: The Youth Council meets Monday evenings, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
History
Under the leadership of Rev. Alpheus L. Bright, the Youth Church, now known as the Youth Ministry, was founded in April of 1972. The number of participants within the Youth Ministry is consistently growing. All the ministries geared toward our youth and young adults seek to involve anyone who has a desire to work and help to build the kingdom of God.
The first Director of the Youth Ministry was Dr. Dolores E. Lee McCabe, followed by Mr. John Montgomery, Miss Marie General, Mrs. Janice Turner Johnson and Mrs. Andrea Baines. The current Director of the Youth Ministry is Ms. Robin Travers.
Under the former leadership of Mrs. Andrea Baines, a Youth Council was developed consisting of members of the members ranging from ages 7 to 25. The Youth Council develops an annual calendar of activities and events for all the youth of Bethany. When making suggestions and decisions related to the youth of our church, the council receives guidance of the adult representatives on the council as well as the Assistant and Youth Directors.
Under the appointed direction of our current Pastor, Rev. Dr. Myron D. Barnes, Sr., the purpose of the Youth Ministry leadership is to assist in guiding the youth of Bethany by helping them develop spiritually, and become committed to the work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to the Bethany Missionary Baptist Church.
Any youth, young adult, or older adult interested in become involve with our youth or activity that reaches out to our youth, is welcome to attend a meeting or is invited to see Robin Travers, Youth Director of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church.
