Established:  1960

Purpose/Mission Statement:   The Scholarship Ministry was organized to help the church assist its post high school students, who are church members in good standing with their educational cost.

Scripture Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thy own understanding in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy path.”

Meeting Day:  3rd Sunday of each month at 8:30am.

  History

The Scholarship Ministry helps sponsor this benevolence by making special contributions to the church treasury throughout the year.  Other church ministries and members support the Scholarship Ministry in this endeavor by making special contributions to the church’s Scholarship Fund.

Recognizing both the importance of education and the many difficulties that can arise in pursuing continuing education, Scholarship Ministry members also give spiritual guidance, advice, and encouragement to the students.  Each member maintains communication with a designated number of students while they are in school.  The first President of the Scholarship Ministry was Deacon Robert Morris.  Our current president is Charolotte Bolden.

In January 1998, The Scholarship Endowment project was started.  The vision that Pastor Emeritus Bright gave the Ministry was that each member of the Ministry stepped up the task by making the first pledges.  Every ministry and member of the church rallied around the Scholarship Ministry to enable the goal to completion.  In June of 2001, the goal of $100,000.00 was reached.  In September of 2001 it was agreed to rename this accomplishment “The Reverend Alpheus L. Bright Endowment Fund”.

Today the Ministry works diligently under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. Myron D. Barnes, Sr., and continues to offer scholarships to all members who set higher education as one of their goals.
