 History

On Sunday, March 1, 1992, Rev. Alpheus L. Bright organized the men of the Church into what was known as The Men’s Fellowship Organization.  With the consent of the Fellowship, Pastor Bright appointed Trustee, Louis Richardson as Chairman and Rev. Lester Porter as Co-Chairman.

Pastor Bright also formed the fellowship to be representative of the 12 Tribes of Israel and the 4 Gospels, or Good News Tribes.  The names of the 12 Tribes selected were: Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtaili, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulum, Joseph, and Benjamin.  The four Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The Men’s Fellowship Organization invited a guest each month to give their professional point of view on topics and issues that concerned our church and community.  Prior to Rev. Bright’s retirement in 2001, he appointed Trustee Bill Banks as a replacement for Trustee Louis Richardson, who re-located to Mauldin, South Carolina.

The Men’s Fellowship Organization has stayed the course under the leadership of Trustee Bill Banks.  Trustee Herb Young, Jr. is the Co-Chair of the ministry, as is Deacon Anthony Brunswick.  Trustee Bruce Weaver is the Treasurer.

One major change in the Men’s Fellowship Organization was the dismantlement of the 12 Tribes of Israel Groups.  The members themselves decided not to attend individual tribe meetings.  However, they did agree to meet as one group of men in order to addressing a number of issues related directly towards men.

Under the leadership of Pastor Barnes, our Men’s Fellowship Organization is now called the Men’s Fellowship Ministry.
