History

The Male Chorus was founded by a group of men in November 1963 under the leadership of Rev. Alpheus L. Bright.  Deacon Andrew McLaurin was the first President, and Deacon Herbert Young, Sr., served as the Director.  Until Alice Gaskins become Directress later that year, Rev. Bright often joked and kidded with the men and referred to them as his “Jack-legged” Men’s Chorus.  Deacon Herbert Young Sr., Trustee William Banks, Deacon Harvey Blanding, Trustee Johnnie Cook, Trustee Jerry Hatten, Trustee Milton Johnson, Deacon Andrew McLaurin, Sr., Trustee Clafton Moses, Deacon Clarence Phillips, Trustee Louis Richardson, Deacon Robert Solomon Sr., Trustee Willie Davis, and Trustee Calvin Olgetree were original members of the Ministry.

Our deceased Deacon Richard Turner served as the 2nd President, Trustee Louis Richardson served as the 3rd President, and our late Trustee Calvin Olgetree served as the 4th President.  The 5th President was Trustee Eugene Chambers who was succeeded by the current President  Anthony Price.

Upon request, the Male Chorus visit Nursing Homes and other Male singing engagements where songs of praise to our Lord are being sung.  In September 2010 Mr. Michael Fortson was introduce as the new director of the Male Chorus and now currently serves as the Minister of Music at the Bethany Missionary Baptist Church.

If you are interested in joining this ministry please see Deacon Anthony Price for more information.
