 History

The Ladies Auxiliary Usher Ministry is one of the oldest established groups in the Bethany Missionary Baptist Church.  The minutes of a church meeting held on June 13, 1939, indicate the recommendation that Sister Alice Davis be made President of the Ladies Auxiliary was adopted.  The church’s Usher Board originally had men and women members.  As the Board grew, the men and women separated, forming two Usher Boards – The Ladies Auxiliary and the Male Usher Board.  These two ministries have continued to work closely together.  Based on the recollection of some of the original members, the Ladies Auxiliary was restructured by Mrs. Rosetta Ruffin in July 1946, at 4238 Wallace Street, under the leadership of the late Rev. James H. Saunders.

The Ladies Auxiliary has been blessed to have only three Presidents since the July, 1946 restructuring; Mrs. Rosetta Ruffin, Mrs. Mary Dickerson, and current President, Ms. Candice Little.

This ministry also helps to support the progress of the church with a Christian attitude.  Since 1955, they have sponsored an annual “State Rally” to raise funds to supplement the heating cost of the church during the winter months.

Their Motto is: Ready to serve.  “Knowing that of the Lord, ye shall receive the reward of inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ.”  Colossians. 3:24.  Their aim is to serve the Lord Jesus through the service they render to humanity. Ushering Day for the Ladies Auxiliary is the 3rd Sunday of each month

If you are interested in joining this ministry, please see Ms. Candice Little for more information.
